The Princeton Review Has Debuted a New Self-Paced Course for the NCLEX-RN Exam
NEW YORK, February 23, 2023 / — The Princeton Review ®, known for its test-prep resources for dozens of important exams—from the ACT® to the USMLE®—has created a new self-paced online course for the NCLEX-RN® (National Council Licensure Examination [for] Registered Nurses) exam.
The NCLEX-RN is a computer adaptive test that nursing-school graduates must pass in order to be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the U.S. and Canada. It is administered by the National Council of State Boards of NursingTM (NCSBN).
The Princeton Review's new NCLEX-RN Self-Paced online course stands out from other study aids for the test in several ways. First and foremost, the course includes practice resources (referenced below) that were developed by NCSBN for use with NCSBN’s Learning Extension course. The Princeton Review acquired the Learning Extension course from NCSBN.
The Princeton Review’s new course also includes practice questions and study aids for a forthcoming revision of the NCLEX-RN that will go into effect April 1, 2023. The revision, titled the Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) exam, will be an enhancement of the test. It will include new long form question types that will test a nursing graduate’s clinical judgment and reasoning skills.

The introductory fee for new NCLEX-RN Self-Paced course—which includes access to all the course materials for a full year—is $449 (a savings of $250 off the list price: $699).

The NCLEX-RN is a computer adaptive test that presents a minimum of 60 and a maximum of 130 questions (the number depends on how well the test-takers do as they take the exam). The questions are primarily multiple choice, but the test can present questions in other formats including fill-in-the-blank and calculation. Test-takers have up to six hours to finish the exam which automatically ends when the test-taker has achieved a passing level.
In 2022, among just over 257,000 nursing-school graduates in the U.S. and in Canada who took the exam through Q3 (the period for which data has been most recently reported), the pass rate was 66.6% . In 2021, among the nearly 279,000 nursing school graduates who took the exam, the pass rate was slightly higher: 68.8% .
