During my four years as a writing consultant, I had many opportunities to help students develop their writing skills, along with a responsibility to approach each student with enthusiasm, respect, and sincerity. I had the privilege of working with students from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Whether it was through face-to-face or asynchronous appointments, I connected with students through their writing and experienced life from their point of view. Each one had a unique style and faced their own challenges to writing, but whether it was revising a final draft, generating topic ideas, or helping them learn more about sentence structure and organization, my goal was to help students understand writing as a process and utilize their strengths. Instead of simply correcting errors or rewriting sentences, it is important to ask students about their thoughts, ideas, and concerns regarding their paper, providing guidance and support while still allowing students to maintain ownership for their work. Promoting autonomy encourages students to express themselves through their writing and offering constructive feedback facilitates growth and confidence in their writing skills. Furthermore, personalized attention can set tutors apart from professors and allow the writing session to be more stimulating and engaging.

the chance to actively participate in the academic growth of a student is a wonderful gift. By demonstrating non-judgmental attitudes and actions, offering helpful feedback, and encouraging critical thinking about writing assignments, I can have a positive impact on the way students think about writing and help them develop confidence in their skills as a writer. Moreover, I believe my job as a tutor goes beyond teaching students proper sentence structure and grammar rules. It is my responsibility to help them develop a belief in themselves that will last beyond their college years. My goal is to inspire them not only as writers but also as members of society. I hope to motivate and encourage students and to help them realize that their voice matters, not just while working on a writing assignment but throughout the rest of their lives.
